Fencing for the future

Posted on 15 October 2018

Kyogle may be the gateway to the rainforests, but Kyogle Showground is home to the field of dreams thanks to an incredible team of hardworking volunteers and a RAS Foundation Community Futures Grant.

The Showground arena was poorly fenced, dangerous in parts and haphazard in others. The border between the neighbouring cattle yards and the arena space was unsafe and difficult to distinguish.

Elizabeth Clark knew her community deserved better and partnered with Kyogle Pony Club to apply for funding - a Community Futures Grant from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation - for fencing to turn the arena into a space for pony clubs, Young Farmers Challenge competitors, bull riders, Riding for the Disabled and the Showground Trust amongst others.

On 6 October Elizabeth’s dreams came to fruition, the brand-new Kyogle Showground Multipurpose Arena was unveiled during Kyogle Show and once again a small regional community proved that if you build it, they will come.

Applications for Community Future Grants are opening soon - more information can be found here.
