Show visits in the 1940's
My first memory of going to a Show is Sydney Show.
I was probably a dear little soul of about five, the side shows all had tents and a little rough mate and I used to roll in under the sides of the tents because we didn’t have threepence to get in to see the tattooed lady and the pygmies and the Bell’s boxing tent and then the Wall of Death with the motorbikes.
Looking back on it now small boys out of the bush are looking to see things they don’t see at home, they see plenty of horses and cattle at home and why would you argue about the same horse in the stable when it’s at home.
That is my earliest memories of the Showground that it was all tents on Sideshow Alley. “
