Show visits in the 1930's
Our grandfather took us to the Show.
We’d train in from Gordon to Central and then the tram out to Moore Park, an exciting experience going out to Moore Park, and then through the entrance and the turnstiles and so on. I seem to remember the Hordern Pavilion was quite close to the entrance.
Then we would do the rounds of some of the sample bag areas, and they were sample bags in those days. You’d go to the Nestles and there’d be little penny Nestles and jubes and all sorts of things… and they were free. I remember watching the Minties being made and as youngsters our eyes were glued to the glass watching this happen. We always enjoyed the liquorice bags and there was Hoadleys and Cadburys and so on, they were all great treats. I remember too getting a little truck, which was tin painted like a Lifesaver which was full of Lifesavers, and I think that actually cost sixpence.
