Young Farmer Challenge

The RAS is committed to engaging, educating and mentoring young people in agriculture through competitions and events with the aim to reinforce their passion for the industry and long-term association with the RAS.

The Young Farmer Challenge is an exhilarating event that puts the skills and camaraderie of young farmers to the test. Teams of four, aged 18-35, compete in a series of on-farm challenges that showcase their expertise in areas such as animal handling, fencing, tractor driving, firefighting and first aid.

With a strong emphasis on technique and safety, this competition not only highlights the practical skills required in modern farming but also fosters mateship and community spirit among participants.

Hosted annually at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the NSW Young Farmer Challenge State Final sees teams from rural NSW compete against each other for the State Title and the opportunity to compete at the national competition for the title of reigning National Champion.

The event is a crowd favourite, drawing enthusiastic spectators who cheer on the competitors as they demonstrate their prowess and determination. It’s a celebration of the hard work and dedication of young farmers, and a testament to the future of Australian agriculture.

The Young Famer Challenge is an Australia-wide competition that annually culminates in a national competition where the states' winning teams battle it out for the title of reigning National Champion. This national final rotates between NSW, QLD, SA & VIC. For more information, or to contact participating states, visit the Australian Young Farmer national site.

All State winners are invited to attend the National finals (Australian Young Farmer Challenge) and will hold the bragging rights of being the “Best of the best” across the country! The National competition involves teams of four competing in a series of skills-based tasks related to Agriculture with a strong emphasis on technique and safety. Ultimately, the Australian Young Farmer Challenge is a great way for Young Australian’s to network and engage with other young Australians and industry leaders from across the country. It’s a way for the industry to celebrate, support and recognise Australia’s future leaders in Agriculture.
