Sheep & Fleece

The Sydney Royal Sheep & Fleece Show is committed to supporting the pursuit of excellence in many different breeds and classes of sheep. With judging in more than 400 classes, awarding cash prizes, ribbons and perpetual trophies for Fleece, District Fleece, Meat and Dual Purpose, and Merino.

The first Show held by the Agricultural Society, back in 1824, had 42 pens of sheep and a prize of forty Spanish dollars to go to the best group of Australian Merino Rams and to the best group of Australian Merino Ewes.

The Merino Section offers March and August Shorn classes across six wool types: Ultrafine, Superfine, Fine, Fine Medium, Medium, and Strong.

The Meat & Dual Purpose Section features classes for 13 breeds of sheep, plus an additional "Any Other Breed" category.

The Sheep Fleece Section includes open, commercial and special classes for Merino fleeces, as well as classes for Corriedale, Crossbred Type, and Border Leicester fleeces. The Districts Fleece Section is specifically designed for the District Courts, allowing them to enter the District Exhibits Fleece Classes.

Exhibitor Manual
All Exhibitors are issued with an Exhibitor Manual prior to the Show, this is recieved in the post. The Exhibitor Manual contains information relevant to Exhibitor's time on site and their specific Competition. It covers topics such as precinct access, entry passes and paperwork required, parking and passes, arrival and access times, event details and information, loading and unloading details and Exhibitor amenities.

Parking
The RAS is pleased to offer limited parking to Exhibitors in our Sheep competitions this is available for purchase at the time of entry. Parking for floats, vans, and trucks is available along with long-term parking for cars and other small vehicles. Parking must be ordered and paid for at time of Entry.

Health Declaration Forms
As part of the requirement to manage biosecurity of exhibits entered into the Sheep Show, the following completed and signed forms must be uploaded at time of entry. Exhibitors packs will not be mailed out until these are received. These can be found via the link below:

Please also ensure you complete a National Vendor Declaration (NVD) prior to arrival at the Showground.

How do I order sheep feed?
Glenorie Stockfeeds is the official supplier of fodder for the 2024 Sydney Royal Easter Show. An order form will be included in your Exhibitor Pack. The RAS will provide an initial half bale of straw bedding in each pen. Exhibitors will be responsible for spreading such straw. Exhibitors will be allocated tickets to redeem further straw during the Show.

School Classes

Schools have the opportunity to showcase their students' husbandry skills and breeding achievements by exhibiting sheep bred or owned under their school’s registered stud in the Sydney Royal Meat & Dual Purpose Show School Classes. Participation is free, making it an accessible and exciting way to celebrate agricultural education.

School Exhibitors for the Sheep Competition are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Entered Sheep must be bred or owned under the School's registered Stud.
  • Exhibits must have entered and competed in a Single Class or a Pairs Class at the 2025 Sydney Royal Sheep and Fleece Show - Meat & Dual Purpose Breeds.
  • Exhibits must be housed at the nominated School for a minimum of 3 months prior to Competition.
  • To be eligible to Exhibit a school must have a minimum of two Sheep registered under the School's stud name.

Meat & Dual Purpose Sheep Handler's Competition

Showcase your sheep-handling skills in this exciting and supportive competition! Tailored to help participants develop and refine their animal handling and husbandry abilities, this event provides a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and challenge yourself. With a fun and friendly atmosphere, competitors can engage in a spirited yet supportive environment, gaining valuable experience while connecting with peers who share a passion for livestock management.

  • Class H001: Handlers aged 10 to under 14 years
  • Class H002: Handlers aged 14 to under 20 years
