Don Eyb was 2005 Show Legend and also a former NSW Mounted Police Commander. Don commenced duties with the NSW Mounties in 1961 and during 44 years of diligent service he performed in over 300 musical ride performances at the Sydney Royal. He recalled how it took about three weeks to train for the ride in the lead up to Show and that a close liaison between the band and the riders was the key to the performances that thrilled crowds year after year (edited extract from oral history interview with Vicki Hastrich in 2010).
