Women's World Championship Sawing Single Handed
Woodchopping was first staged at the Royal EasterShow in 1899, in a paddock which doubled as a cow-judging ring. Four heats were held in the morning and the final was held in the afternoon. By 1938 an official woodchopping ring was constructed and axes (handles and blades) were standardised.
In 1990 women woodchoppers first appeared at the Show as a Jack and Jill competition was introduced in that year. In 2003 a female competition section was offically introduced and in 2024 the first two World Championship events were held for women.
More information on the history of the Woodchopping Competition can be found here.
