Murchison Pavilion

Murchison Pavilion
A cattle, sheep, and wheat farmer with an avid interest in horse sports, Ken C Murchison OAM, was a foundation member of the Pony Club Association, President of the NSW Show Jumping Association and the NSW Tent Pegging Association, as well as a Councillor of the RAS from 1968-1983 (and an Honorary Councillor until his death in 1996).
He never hesitated to get things off the ground, playing an active role in the establishment of many horse sport associations and encouraging greater participation, especially amongst the young.
Rules and guidelines were important to him, as was the Show movement and the need for community involvement and support. Murchison was always willing to take on extra responsibilities, and his commitment was long-lasting.
The Murchison Horse Pavilion is not the only recognition of his dedication, the Helen Rose Memorial Perpetual Trophy for Most Successful Girl Rider in the Junior Section was donated by Ken Murchison in 1964 and originally known as the RKT Murchison Perpetual Trophy. In 1966 the name changed in recognition of the first winner, and it is still awarded today.
The Murchison Pavilion is home, of course, to horses during the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with Showgoers welcomed in to talk to the owners and riders and enjoy the neigh-bourly atmosphere.
