Cumberland Stand

Cumberland Stand
In 2012 when it was time to name the new north-east grandstand it was a simple decision to choose a winner from names submitted in a competition held for Members, Cumberland was chosen due to its links with location and heritage. The Cumberland Plain shapes the geography of Sydney, extending from Windsor in the north to Picton in the south, from the Nepean-Hawkesbury River in the west to Sydney’s inner west towards the east. After an early period of inactivity, the RAS came back to life as the Cumberland Agricultural Society in 1857 to ensure “the promotion of agriculture, exhibition of livestock, agricultural implements and machinery, cereal and farm products” but reverted to the Agricultural Society of NSW in 1859.
