Yarn with James Blundell, entertainer
James Blundell is a living example of what the Sydney Royal Easter Show is all about.
Born and bred in outback Queensland, the country music icon is the perfect ambassador for the Show and its relationship with rural Australia.
James will be busy every night, performing songs and hosting the Showtime Spectacular, including the RAS Stockmens’ Ride, Colours of the Outback Pyromusical, and his favourite, the Sydney Royal Rodeo Series.
“I’ll be doing a couple of sets over the fourteen days, but my role is linking all the parts of the evening. I’m really enjoying the teamwork side of the program; it’s a very cohesive effort,” he said.
A country man through and through, James wants everyone to get as much out of the Show as possible and see the many opportunities life in the country brings.
“My children love coming to the Show and seeing all the action. They look at life in regional Australia, and see the country as a genuine alternative; it has so much to offer and that’s really important.”
Although he’ll be supporting the Maroons in the Sydney Royal Rodeo Series State of Origin, James never feels far from home when he comes to the Show.
“Everyone is so friendly. They are hardworking, intelligent, down-to-earth, real people and that’s what I love about it- the Show brings everyone together.”
James wants visitors to get as much out of the Show as possible, and really see and understand what life is like in the bush.
“Younger generations need to learn about life on the land and where all our food and produce comes from. That’s the beauty of the Show; kids can get involved and have fun.”
The Show brings the best of the country to the city and James believes it holds an important role in representing our country.
“It’s more than the stereotype of hay bales and gingham shirts. We have the best of regional Australia on show and I am extremely proud”.
