Royal Visit 2014 Bush Tele Feature
The Sydney Royal Easter Show will live up to its name today, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, arrive to continue the Royal Family’s tradition of attending the Show.
Since 1927, when the Duke and Duchess of York became the first members of the Royal Family to visit the Show, members of the public, young and old, have jumped at the chance of catching a Royal glimpse.
The popular couple are on an 18-day tour of Australia and New Zealand with their son Prince George; the first Australian visit for Catherine and George.
The arrival of two potential future Kings of England is expected to draw huge crowds on what is already the traditionally largest day of the Show in terms of visitor numbers. Royal watchers will have to compete with media throngs and other fans if they hope to see the Royals.
Speculation has been at fever pitch about what Show exhibits will be on the Royal itinerary. Queen Elizabeth II inspected the District Exhibits during her 1970 visit to the Show, while Prince Charles rode a horse during that same visit.
The Royal couple will have a busy day today, also fitting in a visit to Manly to watch a surf lifesaving demonstration and visit a children’s hospice.
The Show is honoured to be one of only a few Sydney stops on the Royal tour, which included a trip to the Blue Mountains yesterday and a reception at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday.
