Marriage Proposal at the Show Bush Tele Feature
Forget Paris - the Show was the city of love yesterday as Tony Wai proposed to his girlfriend Cindy Cheung in the Commonwealth Bank Arena.
Entering the Arena in a horse-drawn carriage, Cindy was under the impression they had won a radio competition. Little did she know her now fiancé was about to get down on one knee and propose.
“I’m just speechless. I thought I was purely coming to spend the day with family. I cannot find the words to describe how I’m feeling right now,” Cindy said.
With their closest friends and family, along with hundreds of showgoers looking on from the stands, Tony was extremely relieved when Cindy said yes.
“I was so nervous, I’ve been freaking out all of last night, but everyone’s been so supportive, so it’s great,” he said.
It’s not everyday someone proposes here at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, but Tony couldn’t think of a better place.
“I think the Show is the place that you forget work and come here with your family, with your loved one. So I think it’s a really good place for me to make my girlfriend my wife.”
The happy couple celebrated their engagement with family and friends in the Sydney Royal Beer and Wine garden, where Cindy’s father Ronnie explained how happy he was.
“I was a bit surprised because Tony only told us on Saturday, and we didn’t really know what was happening, but it’s great,” he said.
But despite yesterday being April Fools Day, Ronnie assured us it was no joke.
“It may be April 1, but it’s not an April Fools joke. I think Tony picked the day because it’s easy for him to remember in the future,” he laughed.
